I’ve finished my first really new paintings in quite a while.

The recent Five Elements Series didn’t feel new to me, but instead a rehashing or maybe even a summary of work over the past few years. In a commission situation, where the client expects a certain look, that does constrain the work a bit.

Here is the first of the new works: Incursion.

It is a painting I started a few years ago, abandoned, and have now completed in a way not anticipated. It is considerably more spontaneously created than my usual process. In fact, it’s an incursion upon my expected and habitual artistic vision.
